Accidents & Injuries

Accidents are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in India. The country has one of the highest rates of death, disability and disease from injuries. The Indian society has one of the highest rates of death, disability and disease from accidents. The primary cause of trauma is road traffic accidents (RTAs) which are responsible for nearly 60% of all accidents in India. The overall rate of RTAs in India is approximately 25 per 100,000 population.

Many degloving injuries to body parts during accidents has vascularity issues related to degloved skin flaps that are often subjected to major surgeries. They often develop venous and arterial insufficiency. This is attributed to the fact that the local ischemia and the subsequent inflammatory process during the degloving injury results in the compromise of the underlying arterial and venous anatomy. However, with the advent of microvascular free tissue transfer, the success of these procedures has improved dramatically.

SpeccaFlow can be useful in prevention of complications in flap surgeries with careful preoperative assessment and adequate postoperative monitoring. The vasculature of these detached skin flaps can be examined and monitored by the surgeon for better treatment decisions and prompt resection of the permanent extravasation to prevent necrosis and infection.
